THE BASTARD'S STORY

(Lear. Puppets and People)

The play is a fantasy, a variation of W. Shakespear's "King Lear", telling a story of an old father and his children. Lear the King of England decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters according to the "love test"... The version of Malenki Theatre focuses on the story of the Gloucester family: Goneril and Regan - the evil daughters, and two sons: Edgar (the legitimate) and Edmund (the bastard). When the spotlight turns to the young generation, greedy, ruthless and unrestrained fighting for the inheritance begins. There is no king here, no clown. Only people, puppets and what's left of them.

"Lear without Lear, introduced by a bastard. It works splendidly. Lear. Puppets and People, directed by Michael Teplitsky, is theatre as it can be and should be: imaginative, entertaining, and unafraid to take risks… It’s provocative, funny, cynical, violent, moving, and harrowingly relevant"
